Chuck's Birthday August

I rented this cabin at Red Canyon Lodge as a surprise for Chuck's 79th birthday.  We ate that evening at the Lodge.  Their cook had gotten killed in a car wreck a few days before, so only a limited menu of sandwiches was available.  Our meal was delicious and the food was decorated great.  Who ever was doing the coking took pride in their work.
This is a view of the lake as we saw it from the front of our cabin.  The weather was great and the area was quiet.  We loved just looking at the scenery.  We always take books to read.  We sat on the deck until dark.
Another amazing view of the many scenes we saw going and coming from the Lodge.  It is about 45 miles from Vernal.

Chuck and this little woodchuck had fun looking at each other.  It would run from rock to rock and Chuck finally caught him being still.  We enjoy seeing animals in the natural element.
The mountains give many breath taking scenes.  See the trees trying to take command of the solid rocky surface.  There is a lot of shale there and would be very hard to navigate.
After we ate dinner we sat by the Children's fishing pond and watched a mother duck and her ducklings.  She let them get in the water for a few minutes, then she waddled towards the lake.  It didn't take them long to follow her.  We watched to see where she was going.  After they went through some willows we saw them emerge at the edge of the Lake.  In they went.  They went out past the middle of the lake, then turned around.  We thought they were coming to the shore, but no, mama took them another direction.  When our eyes got used to the distance we say two or three other mothers with their ducklings swimming out there.  They weren't very big and we thought they would get tired being out there for so long.  But they didn't come back to shore, so we left them and went to the cabin.
The next morning Chuck suggested we go home a different direction.  We drove to Manila and then to Ft. Bridger, Wyo.  We found out when the Mountain Man Rendezvou was in September.  As it is a huge three day event we went to Lyman and made reservations.  There were only 3 rooms left.  We came back by Mirror Lake and went into the camp ground.  The lake is very beautiful.  We then came down by Kamas and into Duchesne.  The road back had many unexpected scenes of beauty, almost on every curve.  So glad we did that.
