Hawaiian Trip 11-07-08

Chuck and I flew to Honolulu, Hawaii on friday, November 7, 2008. We stayed at one of our Time Share Hotels, The Imperial Hawaiian on Lewer Street. On saturday, we flew to the Big Island for a 12 hour tour. Our lunch stop was at a base of a volcano that was steaming. I didn't know that they would let you get this close! It was a long day, but a very good one. The next day was sunday and we attended Church at the Honolulu Tabernacle that was built before the war. It is the most beautiful Chapel that I have seen. Monday we went to the Polynesian Cultural Center, another all day affair. Our tour guide was a Samoan and did such a good job. The lulau was great and afterwards we took a short tour to the LDS Temple grounds. On the way up there we saw many beautiful beaches. Tuesday we walked to the beach and watched the surfers. You can rent beach chairs and umbrellas. Who would have thought that in November we would need shade? The weather was in the high 70's while we were there. Since we left cold weather I couldn't believe that I wouldn't need warm clothing! Wednesday we took a tour around the island of Oahu, saw turtles (that are protected), Dole pineapple farms, surfer beaches (where competition is held), a little fruit stand and much of the local scenery. A long good day. Thursday we took a tour to Pearl Harbor, the Arizona and the battleship Missouri.(where the peace treaty with Japan was signed) Friday we had to check out by 11am and wait in the Owner's Lounge until going to the airport to catch the 10pm flight home. We arrived in Salt Lake City at 7am. A long 30 hours. We were glad to go and glad to get home. Chuck planned it for 11 months!
