My birthday, Mother's Day and our Anniversary are all in May. To celebrate these events I chose to go to Salt Lake City and see some of the sights that we don't seem to find the time to do. Usually we are going for a doctor's appointment and are ready to head home when we are through. My choices of things to see and do were Thanksgiving Point, The New City Creek complex and the film at the Joseph Smith building with a tour of Temple Square.
Our first night there we ate at Diamond Lil's Steakhouse. It was the best steak I have ever eaten.
The first day we went to Thanksgiving Point. The weather was gorgous short sleeve weather. Before we entered the Garden there was an Art Exhibit. My, what beautful, wonderful pieces! Then Chuck rented a push wheelchair for me. I have never operated an electric one and the walks were very steep in places. I didn't think I would be safe or comfortable using one. So, my darling hubby said he would push me. That was a chore in some places. There were many benches to sit and enjoy a view. Many birds were there, too. We took many pictures of plants and flowers that we might want in our new flower bed. I took the pictures to the nursery and they helped us pick out our plants.
After our tour of the gardens we ate lunch it their elegant little cafe. By then the wind came up so we ate inside. Our waitress was friendly and the atmosphere was delightful.
Our motel was near the airport on North Temple. It was a good location for the things we wanted to do. Our second day was spent seeing the film at the Joseph Smith building. It is so good! Then we wandered over to the visitor center south of the Temple. To our delight we saw a model of the Temple with the back cut out so you could see the rooms inside. That is such a 'cool' thing to have on display. It was so popular that we had to wait our turn to get close to view it.
We crossed the street to enter the new City Creek Center. The stream runs down through it with many enchanting twists and turns. The stores are built round a plaza with two water dislpays. One is a hugh water fountain that sprays differently every few minutes. One is a floor event that shoots water up a few feet every few minutes at different places on the floor. It is a large circle and the kids love trying to catch the spray! Some mothers had brought towels to dry them off as they had on bathing suits. But some were in their street clothes. It was a warm day, but not a hot one. Only chidren would enjoy it as it was cold when they were wet.
After a while we went through the plaza to another street and ate at an Italian Restaurant in their patio. It was almost too cool. The food was good and we enjoyed just relaxing.
Our third and last day it rained. We had left a pair of Berkenstock sandles to be resoled, so we picked them up. We had planned to attend the Draper Temple and this was on the way. The Temple has a great view of the valley. We were too late for a session and didn't want to wait for the next one so we did Initatories. We were checked out of the motel so we started home afterwards. It was a good visit to Salt Lake. We enjoyed being tourists.
